6 Things the Cool Girls Are Thrifting

Fringed suede jackets, incredible pitchers, and text-based art included

Trends don’t usually announce themselves. Instead, they show up quietly — on the head of a woman at the Brooklyn flea market, tucked beneath the arm of a stylish Erewhon shopper — before trickling down to the Substacks, and the Architectural Digests and the Vogues of the world. And then, maybe weeks or months later, into the world of dupes on Amazon and at Target.

Lately, I’ve been clocking a very specific category of trends-in the-making: items that feel vintage but aren’t necessarily. In other words: pieces you could totally find at antique galleries or thrift stores to get the look that inspired the trend itself (and get it before the rest of the internet catches up).

Some of what I‘ve noticed? Tiny little chapeau hats that make even a plain outfit feel intentional. Fringed jackets that look like they’ve lived a life. Pitchers so good they deserve a permanent spot on the table, even when empty. These aren’t “statement pieces” in the Pinterest sense—they’re quiet signals. Not overtly trendy but might be in, like a year or so.

Oh — and swans, which I already told ya’ll would be huge a while back. What Lisa did with them for Christmas is incredible….

Tiny Little Hats

A hat by the French brand Maison Ola (which retails for $450) and a vintage hat I saw at an antique gallery recently, for $25.

These little hats are not for everyone, I get it, but the fashion set is into them. Even Chloé has a version of a little chapeau. Look in the glass cases for these guys and also at flea markets (and thrift stores, which often have hat racks!)

Swan Stuff

Fringed Suede Jackets

Fringed suede jackets have been in for a while but they show no signs of going anywhere. With t-shirts, over a dress… they just make everything underneath look infinitely cooler. I got mine for $20 at the thrift and have worn it practically into the ground. But I have found others, too (like the incredible one above, in the middle, an antique mall find).

Yes, I’m biased, because I make and sell text-based art but I have been telling ya’ll — something about a great font on a poster or painting just looks cool. And it abounds at thrift stores!

Great Belts

There’s a quiet luxe to a well-worn belt — especially when it channels that lean, architectural energy of Khaite or the thoughtful minimalism of Déhanche. Unlike a mass-produced trend belt from a fast-fashion rack, these pieces often have a lived-in softness, an understated confidence that says “I care about proportions, quality, and detail” without screaming it. You throw one around a thrifted blazer or oversize coat and suddenly everything feels curated—not like you tried too hard, but exactly enough. My advice is to scour thrifts for vintage Ralph Lauren and Brighton belts, which feel very current.

Incredible Pitchers

I’m betting big on pitchers. They make great vases and gifts. They are damn chic when used to actually hold water or a cocktail. And there are so many vintage versions that are downright artful. We should all be looking for the above 1950s Jeronimo Fuentes abalone and wood pitcher at the thrift store (it’s shaped like a toucan!) And anything by Arthur Court is a win in my book.
