This is why I love going to open houses. Even if the furniture on the whole isn’t really my style, the individual pieces (especially when it’s the owner’s furniture, rather than professional staging) are so fascinating to look at. You can learn so much!
I am planning to do a 'gallery social' in my apartment now that I've finished moving it. But to be honest, it's so time consuming and effort-full to find something with character these days, still 100% worth it
Do you ever worry about the cleanliness of the furniture, especially if it is upholstered ? I recently saw an amazing peacock chair that I loved but I felt very nervous about what bugs could be lurking in the wickerwork and in the end I had to let it go.
I personally wouldn't worry much about bugs in wicker! I'd probably be more concerned about something upholstered than a piece made entirely of woven rattan or wicker. That said, if a piece looks dirty, has been stored in a damp garage, or gives me any reason to hesitate, I will leave it behind. Trusting your gut is never a bad thing when thrifting!
