I’m in the final stretch of gathering pieces for my next book, which means I’m thinking about objects in relation to what I need and what will make a statement.
My book is all about styling cool stuff, most of which is secondhand or vintage, so I need to ensure I have a lot of cool secondhand stuff to showcase!
Naturally, I’ve also been looking for pieces that hold their own on camera (i.e. things with shape, contrast, presence!)

So, I’ve been sourcing with that in mind.
I’m still shopping the way I always do — navigating the aisles at thrift stores, antique malls, and scrolling Facebook Marketplace — but I’m a little more decisive right now. If something works, I don’t overthink it. If it doesn’t, I move on.
If anything ties my recent finds together, it’s this: I’m not buying filler.
Every piece has to do something: hold space, catch light, add structure, or bring in texture. Ideally, more than one of those at once!
Here are a handful of the things I’ve picked up recently, and how I plan to use them.
I’ll share more as I keep sourcing.
xx,
VC
